Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse visited the Dharma Initiative booth briefly on Friday night at Comic-Con, and sl-LOST.com was there! The pair visited the Dharma booth following their widely attended panel discussion earlier in the day as part of Entertainment Weekly’s Visionaries panel (you can watch the video of EW’s panel ). As you can imagine, the Dharma faithful were electrified at the opportunity to meet the executive producers in such an intimate setting. Damon joked with the crowd that he probably wouldn’t be able to pass the stringent Dharma eligibility assessment. Even with the clout that these two producers brought, there still were no open spots even for them to attempt the eligibility assessment. And as quickly as Damon and Carlton arrived, they were off – no doubt to prepare for today’s highly anticipated Lost panel discussion.
sl-LOST.com had the opportunity last night to speak with the senior Dharma member at the Comic-Con event, Emma. When asked if the third day of the masses of humanity attending Comic-Con were wearing thin on her personally, the Australian native laughed in the most delightful and sincere manner, commenting that she loved the excitement of Comic-Con nearly as much as her five-year career with the Dharma Initiative.
Emma conveyed that the recent applicants were quite good, with Friday’s crop being the most encouraging. Overall, Dharma has been quite pleased with the applicant pool. When asked if Hans Van Egan, Dharma’s head of recruiting was onsite, Emma responded politely that personnel issues were confidential.Emma did confirm, as has been widely reported, that the Comic-Con applicants represent Phase 1 of the process and only passing Phase 1 participants will proceed to the online Phase II testing. What has not been previously reported, Emma indicated that while most applicants passed Phase I, there are still many who do not.
The much more jaded, yet still very likable, senior Dharma member Luke indicated in a somewhat condescending manner that the applicant pool to date has been “interesting”. When asked about Mr. Egan’s presence at Comic-Con, our conversation came to an abrupt end.
Its clear that today’s Lost panel discussion will be one of the premier events at Comic-Con 2008, and given that it follows in the same room as the Heroes exclusive first look at Chapter 3: Villains, the lines to attend should be enormous. Your field reporter plans to queue up very early in the a.m. and will report back later today.
